Laser Assisted Liposuction and How It Is Beneficial

by Lonnie Maginnis

Before discussing laser assisted liposuction, you need to understand a thing or two about liposuction itself. It is a procedure designed to remove areas of stubborn fat from the body. It is not a way to lose a lot of weight, but it can help with persistent bulges which seem immune to diet and exercise.

The idea to use lasers in liposuction procedures is European in design and origin. It was developed as a means to decrease the post operative symptoms associated with the procedure. For instance, if your surgeon uses this technique, you will not have as many bruises or swelling afterwards. In fact, you will not be in nearly as much pain. This is because of how the laser works to assist the procedure. Its waves are used to weaken the fat cells in the appropriate area. Actually, it terms them into liquid, making them easier to remove once you get to the standard procedure.

At this point, the more or less standard procedure is used. A tool, the cannula, is attached to the withdrawal device being used - generally a pump device or a syringe. The cannula is inserted into tiny incisions made by the surgeon. With laser assisted surgery, the incisions are much smaller than in standard liposuction. The liquefied cells are then sucked out of your body.

This new, innovative technique allows for the removal of fat from otherwise tricky places. Women tend to get this type of liposuction on their stomachs or abdomens, their knees, their thighs, and their hips. Men find this type of liposuction advantageous too. It is easy and discreet to remove fat from their necks, their chest or breast areas, and unsightly love handles.

Laser assisted liposuction has many benefits, beginning with the fact that it does not take as much time to recover after this procedure. You see, with tumescent and ultrasound methods, recovery time can take quite a while. This is because you will experience less bruising and swelling when your surgeon uses the laser approach.

One reason that this type of liposuction is so popular is because you are not dependent on pain medication. The laser itself can take care of your pain. Rather than needing general anesthesia, you will generally only require a local anesthetic and a simple, mild sedative. For everything else, the laser takes care of it.
